The theme, "Witnesses to Hope," builds on the annual report released earlier this year by the Committee for Religious Liberty that highlights the impact of political polarization on religious freedom. In addition to issues such as mandates for in vitro fertilization and threats to Catholic ministries serving migrants, Religious Freedom Week also focuses on crucial policy positions such parental choice education.
Religious Freedom Week allows us to come together to "pray, reflect, and act". We are reminded of the honor it is to be able to live out our faith boldly but also to pray for those who aren't able to do so. In Pope Leo XIV's meeting with the Diplomatic Corps he says, "I believe that religions and interreligious dialogue can make a fundamental contribution to fostering a climate of peace. This naturally requires full respect for religious freedom in every country, since religious experience is an essential dimension of the human person. Without it, it is difficult, if not impossible, to bring about the purification of the heart necessary for building peaceful relationships". During this 2025 Religious Freedom Week, let us remind ourselves of Pope Leo XIV's words and see we can be a beacon of hope for others.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) helps us live out this Religious Freedom Week by offering different intentions each day.
